The Client: Country Fire Association of Victoria
The Country Fire Association of Victoria is a volunteer and community based fire and emergency services organisation with over 1200 full time employees and over 55,000 volunteers (operation and non-operational) across the State of Victoria. They help protect 3.3 million Victorians, and more than one million homes and properties across the state.
The Country Fire Association of Victoria has battled with a number of Bushfires across the State since 1851, but with a real focus since the Black Saturday fires of February 2009, where 173 lives and over 2000 homes were lost. As a result of this incident the CFA implemented a process for advising the public of fires and risks in their area. One of the communication processes was an application for iPhones and Android.
Dialog was approached by the CFA to develop an integrated iPhone and Android application integrated with Google Maps to identify fires in the vicinity of a user. Push messaging was also implemented to warn the user of local risks. Now all Victorians can have access to an application that can warn them of any local fires, and provide them with the information needed to save lives.
